Best Fishing Spots in Estonia: Where to Use Your Fishing Net

20.05.2026 · Fishing Locations
Estonia is a true fishing paradise — with over 1,400 lakes and a long coastline along both the Baltic Sea and Lake Peipus. Here are some of the best spots to use your fishing net.

Lake Peipus is Estonia's largest and most fish-rich inland water body. Here you can catch pikeperch, bream, perch, and vendace. Fishing is particularly good in the northern part where the bottom is sandier. We recommend using nets with 45–55mm mesh sizes.

Lake Võrtsjärv is a great spot for eel and pikeperch. The southern part of the lake is shallower and rich in pike. 38–45mm nets work perfectly here.

On the Baltic Sea coast, especially around Saaremaa and Hiiumaa, you can catch salmon, sea whitefish, and Baltic herring. Here it's worth using more durable Finnish nets, because salt water and strong currents wear out nets faster.

Among smaller lakes, Pühajärv stands out — known for its clean water and good catches. Perch fishing there is especially good in early spring and autumn.

Important reminder: in Estonia, you need a fishing card, and some areas have seasonal restrictions. Always check local regulations before heading out to fish!
