How to Choose the Right Fishing Net: A Complete Beginner's Guide

15.05.2026 · Fishing Tips
Choosing a fishing net may seem complicated for a beginner, but it's actually simpler than you think. The right net choice depends mainly on three factors: the fish species you're targeting, the body of water, and your personal preferences.

The most important parameter is mesh size. Smaller meshes (38mm) are perfect for catching vendace, perch, and roach. Medium meshes (45–55mm) work well for bream, pikeperch, and pike. Larger meshes (65–90mm) are designed for big fish like salmon and large pikeperch.

The second important aspect is the net material. We offer both Chinese and Finnish nets. Chinese nets are more affordable and great for recreational anglers. Finnish nets and net cloth are renowned for their exceptional durability — they last for years even with intensive use.

The height and length of the net depend on the depth of the water. In shallower lakes, a 1.5–2m high net is sufficient. In deeper waters, you should choose a 3m or higher variant.
